![]() | A warning appears when you connect to a Windows-based computer |
When you connect to a Windows-based computer, Remote Desktop Connection might display an inaccurate warning message: "The server name on the certificate is incorrect. Do you want to connect to this computer anyway?" You can bypass this message and connect to the computer by clicking Continue.

When you access Help from the Remote Desktop Connection menu, the page that is displayed shows two blank icons and no content. To display all Help topics, click either icon.

If you cannot open Help from the Remote Desktop Connection
menu in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, or Swedish, click Home , and then click Remote Desktop Connection Help. If you still cannot open Remote Desktop Connection Help, you can open it on the
Office for Mac Web site
(www.microsoft.com/mac).

Remote Desktop Connection automatically reconnects to the Windows-based computer if the network connection is interrupted. The progress indicator that appears during reconnection includes a Cancel button that might not be available.

The Remote Desktop session window might freeze if your network connection is interrupted. To correct this issue, press ⌘+Q to quit Remote Desktop Connection, resolve the network issue, and then reconnect to the Windows-based computer.

When you are connected to your Windows-based computer through a virtual private network (VPN) or wireless network, the Remote Desktop session window might become temporarily unresponsive. When this happens, the session window appears frozen for 10 seconds or more and then becomes responsive again. If the issue persists, quit Remote Desktop Connection, and then reconnect to the Windows-based computer.

The Windows-based computer shows only the first six characters of Macintosh volume names (the seventh character is an index number for the Mac volume) and the first 15 characters of the Macintosh computer name, for example, MacOSX1, MacOSX2, MacOSX3.
Mac volume names that contain certain characters appear on the Windows-based computer as "Disk1" for the first mapped volume, "Disk2" for the second mapped volume, and so on. These changes occur if the volume names include any of the following characters:

Characters that are not valid in Windows as part of a volume name: / \ : * ? " < > |.

A period (.) anywhere in the volume name.
Volume names that contain extended characters, such as accented Roman characters or Japanese characters, appear on the Windows-based computer as "Disk1" for the first mapped volume, "Disk2" for the second mapped volume, and so on.

Because of an issue with Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), the default printer setting on the Windows-based computer might be changed after you end a Remote Desktop session. If you are unable to print from the Windows-based computer after a Remote Dekstop session, set the default printer again.

Windows Aero is the default theme in Windows Vista and includes visual effects such as Aero Glass and Flip 3D. Remote Desktop Connection does not display these effects when you connect a Windows-based computer that is running Windows Vista.

You cannot use a smart card with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.
