Known issues in PowerPoint 2011

If you copy a hyperlink and then paste it into PowerPoint 2011, PowerPoint crashes.

PowerPoint crashes when you apply a theme.

When you click a link to a different slide in the same presentation during a slide show, and the presentation's URL contains a space or non-ASCII character, PowerPoint opens a new document or slideshow. In normal view, the new window goes to the first slide, rather than the linked-to slide.

New features in Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2011, such as embedded media and sections, can be saved only with the .pptx file name extension. If you try to save it in the earlier .ppt format after you add new PowerPoint features to your presentation, you will likely encounter errors.

Use the .pptx file extension to take advantage of new features in PowerPoint 2011 and cross-compatibility with other Office for Mac 2011 applications. You can also download and install the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2. or an update that enables PowerPoint 2004 to open files that have the .pptx file name extension.

Password-protected files that were created in PowerPoint for Windows can be opened in PowerPoint 2011. However, they cannot be created or changed.

Characters, including <"> and |, are allowed in file names in PowerPoint 2008 and earlier versions, but they must be removed from a file name before it can be opened in PowerPoint 2011.

When you include music as part of a presentation, be aware that music files purchased from the iTunes Store can be played only on authorized computers.

Also, be aware of compatibility between different versions of PowerPoint and iTunes. Depending on their version of PowerPoint, people who you share presentations with might be unable to play some iTunes files. For example, PowerPoint 2008 and PowerPoint 2011 can play iTunes music files, but not iTunes movie or TV show files.

On some computers, movies that use added effects might not play normally, which is often caused by a drop in frame rate. This issue can be fixed by removing any added effects, notably Reflection and 3D.

Text in a presentation with character spacing (also known as kerning) that uses a setting other than normal may not wrap as expected on computers that run Mac OS X version 10.5 (Leopard).

Note  For computers that run Mac OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later versions, custom character spacing should wrap normally.

You cannot open files located on SharePoint or Windows Live SkyDrive from Safari or Mozilla Firefox until you have opened Word, Excel, or PowerPoint at least one time.

Earlier versions of Office for Mac included Organization Chart, a tool for creating and editing organization charts. Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 does not include Organization Chart. When you open a document that contains an object that was created by using Organization Chart, you can view it, but you cannot edit it.

When you set a custom dictionary to work only for a specific language, the language setting is not used when you check the spelling in Excel or PowerPoint.

If you clear the Save password in my Mac OS X keychain check box when you access the Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS) server, you will have to sign in multiple times. To work around this issue, make sure that the Save password in my Mac OS X keychain check box is selected.

Per Apple guidelines, when you paste a vector PICT image, it is saved as PDF instead of PICT, and you cannot ungroup the PDF image.

If you add a link to a picture that is located on a Web site, the next time that you open the file, the picture is displayed as a red X. This occurs because the application does not recognize the Web site path. To work around this issue, on the Web site, copy the image, and then paste it into the Office for Mac application.

Office for Mac displays no clip art in the Entertainment, Emotions, or Food and Dining categories in the Clip Art Gallery. To work around the issue, search for the following clip art:

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 does not let you print a Visual Basic project. To work around the issue, copy the code of your Visual Basic project, paste it into a text-editing program, and then print.
